The Beginning

I called the number that we all had been taught to memorize since we were three. I dialed 9-1-1 and sighed:

“What is your emergency ma’am.” the operator asked urgently.

“My boyfriend…Ryan Uley is the man your looking for. I found blood on his clothes and he fits the description of the Guttenberg murders.” I whispered into the phone as I saw his car pull into my driveway.

“Ma’am what is your name  and are you in a safe place?” The operator whispered as I heard her typing, probably to locate my address.

“My name is Cleopatra Legend and No…but I will be.” I whispered as I left the phone off the hook. I grabbed the bag I had packed earlier and slung it over my shoulder. I looked in the mirror as I hard the downstairs door open. I took a quick look in the mirror..

I blew a small amount of hair out of my face as I opened the bedroom window and climbed out on to the fire escape. I felt the rush of the crisp winter air on my face. My bangs blew all around my face as i climbed down the stairs. I heard the sirens going toward my house as I ran down the block. I knew I had to escape it..the lies, the manipulation,him and  my past.

I felt the snow crunch around me as I hit each step. I ran for so long that I had no idea where I was. I stopped to catch my breath and saw a taxi stand. I went inside and asked where was the farthest they were willing to go…they said Sunset Valley. I had never heard of it…perfect.

After arriving, I went to a real-estate agent and asked for the cheapest property they had. I brought it right away, when I arrived at my new home.  I was shocked, it was nothing but a piece of land. No walls, no house or even furniture. It was perfect, it represented me, it was a fresh start.

I rubbed my neck as I thought I have my work cut out for me.
